WHY DO WE NEED YOU?

The Business Unit Controller is a key member of the Agway Senior Management team and is responsible for planning and directing the financial and accounting functions at Agway Metals. This position will champion, budgeting, financial reforecasts, monthly reporting taxation, and audit processes within the company and oversee the AP and AR functions. The Business Unit Controller must be comfortable working as a strategic advisor and as an active member of a small leadership team.

This position will report and work closely with the Metal division of Saint-Gobain aiming to ensure financial results are reported accurately and timely. In addition, this role will have a strong inter-connection with the Agway operations and oversee the manufacturing sites. This role will lead internal control initiatives and work closely with the reporting and planning team ensuring that financials properly reflect the operations of the business. This critical role will act as a business partner to initiate, quantify, and lead strategic and tactical projects and work collaboratively across the Bailey and SG organization.

Decision Support and Other Duties

  • While working with the other members of the management team, this position will develop or direct the development of special analysis required to make critical business decisions. Collaborate with other staff members and other departments to determine best course of action for the business. These analyses include:
  • Competitor analysis of financial and operational results
  • Costing studies by site
  • Review of all appropriation requests exceeding $25,000 to ensure that such projects are financially justified.
  • Application of complex accounting and valuation concepts to support financial decision making, (ex. fixed asset and goodwill Impairments, capital leases, valuation reserves.)

Financial Analysis

Produce monthly, financial statements with variance analysis to support differences from budget and prior year’s results

  • Prepare these statements in an accurate and timely manner
  • Enhance variance analysis by working with the business and identifying key trends, building reconciliation and explaining rationale for movement against targets. Highlight inaccuracy and uncover areas of improvement
  • Support the preparation of the forecasts and budgets for the Agway business
  • Analysis of capital expenditure proposals and ensuring they meet operational and financial return objectives and proactively communicates recommendations and justification
  • Work with the other departments to understand business results through P&L analysis, trends, earnings variation, mix and various ad-hoc analyses.
  • Provide insights on business performance; including financial / P&L, KPI’s / metrics.
  • Manage balance sheet accounts for the business and have a solid understanding of the amounts and activity.

Internal Control

  • The position is responsible for working with operations management to ensure a system of proper internal controls is in place at all facilities of the business as well as for the corporate functions. Annual Self­ Assessment will be required, and GAPS identified with GAP closure plans put in place. Other audit processes ie: peer-audit programs for plants are encouraged to ensure consistency of processes and policies are followed. Action plans will be created for larger GAPS with clearly defined action plans to mitigate the identified deficiency.

IS THIS JOB FOR YOU?

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
  • The successful candidate must have 7-10 years of progressive experience in a related field and possess a CPA Designation.
  • At least 7-10 years of progressive analysis and leadership experience required. Previous experience and ability to navigate matrix organization are required.
  • Position requires strong analytical, financial management and organization skills as well as the ability to influence other business leaders and/or management.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and adherence to business controls
  • Operational analysis and understanding of manufacturing performance, standard cost variances and results
  • Superior data management and modeling skills required. Experienced user of Microsoft Windows software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Microsoft Navision required
  • Experience with SAP and G/L Wands, QlikView and other BI Tools, and financial consolidation systems experience preferred.
  • Proven ability to understand and solve complex financial issues. Must be credible, agile and self-starter.
  • Ability to work autonomously and have a high degree of business and financial acumen.
  • Consultative- customer focused and can work in a fast-paced environment
  • Financial knowledge and general accounting knowledge.
  • Good written and Oral communication skills along with good MS PowerPoint presentation skill

Leadership

  • Elevate & validate key strategic priorities and drive business case development and financial modeling to ensure value creation is realized.
  • Coordinate financial activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general accounting, and reporting.
  • Oversee the other finance team members (currently a Senior AP clerk, a Bilingual Credit and Collections Specialist, and a Junior AR clerk);

Saint-Gobain aims to deliver a comprehensive Total Rewards package to support our employees’ wellbeing and help improve daily life for themselves and their families. We believe in the importance of pay transparency in what we offer prospective candidates, the base pay range for this position is $106,000 to $140,000 per year. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual bonus. The targeted bonus amount is 15% of base salary based on company and individual performance measures. Bonus payments are part of variable compensation and by nature can vary based on company and individual performance and is discretionary.
