WHY DO WE NEED YOU?

We are seeking an experienced, highly motivated, hands on, results oriented Manufacturing Engineer II. The incumbent pursues projects which require experience and judgment to deal with a variety of variables. Projects are designed to assist the plant and departments in increasing production, improving quality and/or reducing costs through process, product, equipment, materials and/or methods development and improvements. Projects frequently involve interaction with other disciplines and occasionally with customers, both domestic and international. Saint-Gobain maintains a world class manufacturing environment employing lean techniques to drive the production systems and overall efficiency and effectiveness of the plant.

This job will provide daily technical support to the product lines manufactured in Organic Bonded Abrasives, including, but not limited to:

  • new product designs & formulations
  • resolving daily technical challenges that surface in production
  • developing solutions to root causes of scrap
  • maintaining operating procedure documentation
  • dispositioning orders that require technical approval to proceed to the next operation.

Additionally, the job requires the management of larger scope projects, which are typically focused on:

  • supporting business growth through new product & process development
  • reducing the Cost Of Poor Quality through process variation reduction and permanent solutions to root causes of quality issues
  • reducing manufacturing cost & increasing efficiency through the development of improved processes and/or implementing new manufacturing technologies

The successful candidate will posses a high level of initiative, ability to handle multiple responsibilities, and directed accountabilities to ensure successful completion of projects. He/she works within a framework of practices and precedents and establishes priorities and schedules within the framework of agreed upon production plans. Projects will be designed to assist the plant in achieving the business goals and objectives as they relate to productivity, quality, and service.

The principal end results are:

  • Works with manufacturing technicians to provide technical support to the manufacturing operation
  • Support and/or lead activities to qualify new products, processes, and raw materials
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and implement solutions
  • Work with the operation to support business initiatives to improve safety, quality, service and/or efficiency
  • Oversee the process of testing and disposition of raw materials and bonds
  • Participate in the process of investigating customer complaints
  • Maintain documentation on the products and processes that feeds into our knowledge based system
  • Support and/or lead investigations and implementation of corrective actions for manufacturing issues
  • Conducts studies and experiments to drive improvement of the manufacturing process
  • Supports the ISO 9001:2015 program to ensure compliance within the manufacturing facility

 

 

IS THIS JOB FOR YOU?

  • Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical or material science engineering
  • Advanced technical knowledge associated with a master's degree would be a plus
  • 3-5 years' work experience in a lean or six sigma environment
  • Experience in PLC controls and SPC software is desirable, as is a working knowledge of the ISO 9001 standard
  • World Class Manufacturing Green or Black Belt certification is desired
  • Understanding of lean and ability to contribute and manage portions of a world class manufacturing program is desirable
  • Working knowledge of health, safety and environmental laws
  • Must be proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Must have strong problem-solving skills. Must be able to deliver effective solutions quickly in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Must have strong project management skills
  • Able to write clearly and speak convincingly as a large amount of time is spent working with people within and outside of the company
  • Able to make independent decisions as well as operate in a team environment
  • May manage engineering technicians
  • Ability to be self-directed and work in a cross-functional team (Manufacturing, Sales, Research and Engineering) environment is essential

Pay Transparency:

Certain locations require pay information be provided in job postings. Saint-Gobain aims to deliver a comprehensive Total Rewards package to support our employees’ wellbeing and help improve daily life for themselves and their families. We believe in the importance of pay transparency in what we offer potential candidates. Provided is the national pay range for this position which is $81,500-$126,500 per year. However, the base pay offered may vary depending on geographic region, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, among other factors.

In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual bonus. The targeted bonus amount is 10% of base salary based on company and individual performance measures. The Total Target Cash range (base pay and annual bonus) for this position, is $89,650 to $139,150. Bonus payments are part of variable compensation and by nature can vary based on company and individual performance and is not a guarantee.
