WHY DO WE NEED YOU?

The Maintenance Lead Mechanic is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all facility and production equipment. This role leads the development and execution of a comprehensive preventative maintenance program, manages maintenance systems, spare parts inventory, and supports capital planning and cost control efforts.

This is a lead maintenance role and key member of the plant leadership team, requiring a highly experienced, self-directed professional who can operate with minimal supervision, influence decisions, and drive maintenance excellence across the facility.

Essential Duties:

  • Establish and maintain a Preventative Maintenance (PM) program and schedule with minimal disruption to production.
  • Develop and maintain a work order system and backlog log to effectively track, prioritize, and schedule maintenance activities.
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on all equipment in a safe and timely manner to minimize downtime.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical systems, including pumps, valves, gearboxes, and related equipment.
  • Assist operators and management in diagnosing and resolving equipment root cause issues.
  • Establish and maintain a critical spare parts list for all essential equipment.
  • Manage spare parts inventory, ensuring availability while controlling costs.
  • Verify incoming parts against purchase orders to ensure accuracy.
  • Maintain equipment files and documentation to support maintenance planning.
  • Work closely with operators, supervisors, and management to align maintenance priorities with production needs.
  • Coordinate and oversee external contractors (fabricators, pipefitters, etc.).
  • Perform facility maintenance, including building repairs and groundskeeping (e.g., seasonal freeze prep, flooding).
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment by applying Saint Gobain WCM standards
  • Adhere to all company policies, safety regulations (EHS), and quality standards.
  • Follow and enforce procedures for Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined spaces, hot work, line breaking, and working at heights, among others.
  • Utilize required PPE and promote a strong safety culture.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, manuals, and safety documentation.
  • Maintain and review the work order backlog and prioritize high-impact tasks.
  • Prepare and present a monthly maintenance summary report (i.e., downtime tracking, PM completion).
  • Recommend improvements to safety, reliability, and production processes.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across the facility.

IS THIS JOB FOR YOU?

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Electrical certification (required)
  • 3–5+ years of industrial maintenance experience (manufacturing preferred)
  • Experience with mechanical systems (pumps, valves, gearboxes)
  • Basic computer skills (CMMS, Microsoft Office, Outlook)
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and blueprints
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational skills, and effective verbal and written communication skills

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, and perform physical labor for extended periods and lift to 50 lbs.
    • Exposure to: Moving mechanical parts, heat, noise, vibration, chemicals, indoor and outdoor environments, heights, and confined spaces
