Process (WCM/Lean) Engineer

What’s the job?

The Process/WCM Engineer is responsible for driving optimization and improvement initiatives at the Orange, CT Omniseal Solutions plant. The primary focus of this position is to analyze manufacturing processes, identify opportunities for increased efficiency, and implement solutions that enhance product quality, consistency, and throughput. The role involves thorough documentation of processes and changes, as well as conducting root cause analysis to resolve operational issues and prevent recurrence.

As part of the Engineering Team, the incumbent provides technical expertise and change management support to achieve site objectives. The Process Engineer develops and maintains process control strategies and standards, ensuring clear and efficient communication with manufacturing, quality, supply chain, tool room, facilities, finance, customer service, and cross-functional agile teams.

In addition to process engineering responsibilities, the position supports World Class Manufacturing (WCM) program activities as needed. This includes participating in focused improvement projects, assisting with WCM training, and providing guidance on WCM tools and methodologies to plant teams. WCM responsibilities include:

  • Lead and/or participate in continuous improvement projects.
  • Train small groups on the WCM philosophy and tools
  • Develop process control strategies and standards to improve operational efficiency
  • Assist the plant in the identification and prioritization of cost deployment projects.
  • As a WCM Subject Matter Expert and Business Partner, provide training, support, and direction to plant teams as appropriate to help them identify, analyze, and solve operational problems.
  • Mentor colleagues to take ownership & use the WCM tools/methods in their daily work.
  • Track Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) relative to the WCM program and report cumulative progress
  • Serves as a 5S Plant Champion and supports 5S throughout the facility.
  • Supporting site WCM pillars as required (the site currently has an active People pillar and EHS pillar)

Essential Functions:

  • Support World Class Manufacturing (WCM) program activities as needed, including participation in focused improvement projects, assisting with WCM training, and providing guidance on WCM tools and methodologies to plant teams. Mentor colleagues to take ownership & use the WCM tools/methods in their daily work.
  • Develop and maintain process control strategies and standards to support consistent and reliable manufacturing operations. Thoroughly document all process changes, improvements, and findings to ensure clear communication and knowledge transfer across teams. Conduct clear delegation and project hand off to ensure sustainable change is created.
  • Analyze manufacturing processes to identify opportunities for optimization and improvement in efficiency, product quality, consistency, and throughput. Implement solutions based on data-driven analysis, including Six Sigma and statistical process control methods, to minimize defects and waste.
  • Conduct root cause analysis to resolve operational issues and prevent recurrence, using structured problem-solving methodologies.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?

JOB SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS: This position requires an individual who is flexible and a team player. The applicant must be able to work with deadlines and production schedules to assure a quality product is delivered on time to the customers. A High School diploma or its equivalency is required, technical school training, apprenticeship program or equivalent is preferred. In addition, the candidate must possess skill and knowledge in set-up, adjustment and operation of machine shop equipment. Ability to read and interpret work orders, charts and blueprints and specifications, as well as skill and knowledge necessary in utilizing shop math and measuring instruments is required. Must be able to measure and hold Tolerance levels of .002mm (.0000080”). Adherence to Quality Policy and Standard Operating Procedures and knowledge of those procedures will be a part of the daily process. Must be motivated, focused, and clear thinking. CNC Toolmaker

The Omniseal Solutions division is looking for an experienced CNC Toolmaker to join the Saint-Gobain team in Orange, CT.

The CNC Toolmaker must be able to fabricate and/or repair precision parts, dies to support production operations. They will set up and operate a variety of computer-controlled and mechanically controlled machines, manufacture tools to produce precision metal parts, fixtures, and die components.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Machining tools, fixtures, and die components prior to and after heat treating.
  • Read, review, understand, and interpret blueprint specifications for machined and/or fabricated parts with special focus on stamping die components. Competent in the use of inspection tools.
  • Use general inspection knowledge and experience with measuring tools (mics/calipers, bore gauges, etc.) for size and quality verification based upon specifications.
  • Program utilizing CAM software (Mastercam is preferred).
  • Operate manual machines; surface grinders, Lathes, and Knee Mills (ProtoTrak mill and lathe experience is a plus).
  • Set up, program, and operate a CNC Lathe (CNC Mill and Wire EDM are a plus).
  • Performs precise grinding of tooling and uses various gauges and micrometers as required.
  • Train other team members on tool and die making operations.
  • Work closely with Engineering on new tooling or tooling revisions.

The targeted bonus amount can be up to 10% of the hourly rate based on company and individual performance measures. Bonus payments are part of variable compensation and, by nature, can vary based on company and individual performance and are not a guarantee.

Program Overview:

Our 18-month development program places participants in a full-time operational role, giving them the opportunity to strengthen their manufacturing skills while gaining exposure to Saint-Gobain North America. Each participant is assigned to a manufacturing site for 18 months and travels quarterly to other Saint-Gobain facilities across North America. Participants spend 80% of their time on local site projects and 20% on EOM program activities.

Many of these activities are designed to accelerate career development and long-term professional growth, including virtual and classroom training, hands-on learning experiences, and a wide range of networking opportunities. Participation in training sessions and quarterly events is mandatory to complete the program. Participants are expected to attend all activities unless exceptional circumstances arise.

While start dates may vary, the EOM program officially begins each July and concludes 18 months later, in December of the following year. After completing the program, EOM engineers work closely with our dedicated HR team to identify an operational role at one of our 160 sites across North America. While placement is not guaranteed, most graduates of the EOM program are able to choose from multiple opportunities within Saint-Gobain.

  • Providing engineering support for site process improvements.

Maintenance Manager

WHY DO WE NEED YOU?

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing the Maintenance team to ensure that the plant operates efficiently and safety, minimizing downtime and maximizing productivity. The incumbent directly manages the Maintenance Supervisor while indirectly manages the Maintenance Technicians (mechanical, electrical, multi-craft) and SAP Coordinator. Essential Functions:

Environmental, Health & Safety

  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and company policies.

People Management

  • Manage monthly oversight of maintenance department expenses, labor, and payroll hours, monitoring and controlling maintenance expenses to stay within budget.
  • Maintain an inventory of spare parts and equipment, ensuring availability for repairs and replacements.

Project Management & Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement solutions.
  • Lead and participate in plant-wide continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in maintenance technology.

WCM Continuous Improvement Manager

The Role

The WCM Process Improvement Engineering Manager plays a key leadership role in driving operational excellence through the application of World Class Manufacturing (WCM), Lean, and Six Sigma methodologies.
