What's the job?

In this hands-on Machine Operator role, you will operate production equipment while maintaining high quality and productivity levels at the CertainTeed Gypsum Finishing Tape Plant in Junction City, Kansas. You will also sustain a positive team environment with a focus on safety and continuous improvement.

As a Machine Operator, you will be under the direction of the Plant Manager with support from the Operations Manager and Shift Supervisor.

Pay Rate: As a Machine Operator, you will be paid on a weekly basis and your base pay rate will start at $17.00 per hour.

In addition to your paid hours, Machine Operators receive weekly or quarterly bonus payments based on assigned duties and/or productivity levels.

Hours: Shift schedules are fixed with current openings on our 1st shift: Monday - Friday from 6:45 AM - 3:15 PM

Job Duties:

  • Ensure a safe work environment by following all safety rules and identifying, eliminating, and communicating unsafe conditions.
  • Configure, start, run, stop, clean, troubleshoot, and replace parts on the 613 Tape Rewinder, Automated Core Loader, and other production equipment.
  • Run an efficient production line by continuously monitoring the production area, equipment, and supplies while also mitigating wasted efforts and scrap materials.
  • Ensure product and packaging specifications are followed by performing frequent quality checks, making adjustments when needed, and immediately reporting abnormal conditions to the Leadership Team.
  • Keep production area and equipment free of debris and stocked for the incoming shift, ensuring all needed supplies are available.
  • Inspect, move, and load Master Rolls using a handcart and use a fork truck for various operations.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork (i.e. production line paperwork), read and understand specifications for all products, and document all changes as they occur.
  • Consistently and effectively communicate with all other team members and ask for help when needed.
  • Participate in and promote safety, quality, continuous improvement events and ideas.
  • Identify opportunities and help find new or better solutions.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?

  • Possess a high school diploma or GED (preferred)
  • Have prior manufacturing or industrial experience (preferred)
  • Ability to work effectively in a team setting

Job Details:

• Continually monitors product to detect and resolve issues utilizing WCM tools

Maintenance Mechanic

The Finishing Technician is a 2nd shift position reporting directly to the Production Supervisor in Strongsville. The position is responsible for operating the technical aspects of the Finishing line to include operating spray booths, maintaining spray pumps, and participating in roller coating activities. In addition, the role will be responsible for loading/unloading product on the Finishing line when needed.

Schedule: 11:00am - 7:30pm Monday - Friday, OT as needed

Compensation: $19.00 - $24.00 an hour

  • High School diploma required with 1-3 years experience in spray paint applications in an industrial setting.

Manager, Health and Safety Communications

WHY DO WE NEED YOU?

The Manager, Health and Safety Communications, will report to the Director, Internal Communications and will be responsible for developing and implementing effective campaigns and communication strategies to strengthen our culture of safety. This role is pivotal in ensuring that all employees are well-informed, engaged, and aligned with the company’s values and safety culture. The role will work collaboratively with colleagues in Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), human resources, and plant operations to deliver exceptional safety campaigns and employee engagement initiatives that align with Saint-Gobain’s safety culture. The successful person in this role understands the critical importance of employee safety in manufacturing environments combined with a proven track record for leading internal communication campaigns that have a measurable impact on employee engagement and company culture.

  • Strategic Campaign Planning: Lead the planning, development and implementation of safety awareness campaigns for employees, including impactful local communication toolkits and 12-month editorial calendar of content and activities designed to further embed our culture of safety in the hearts and minds of all North America employees. Plan, develop and implement safety awareness campaigns for employees including impactful local event guidance, engagement activities and communication toolkits.
  • Creative Storytelling: Partners with external agencies and internal teams to conceptualize and launch an emotionally driven, human-centric internal campaign and storytelling strategy that will highlight our safety culture with memorable impact.
  • Content Creation: Develops and manages an editorial calendar to reach and engage employees with and without a company device. Lead external agencies and partner with internal colleagues for the creation of high-quality internal safety communications content, including strategic campaigns, employee stories, emails, newsletter articles, videos, presentations, mobile app content, digital displays, manufacturing site toolkits and intranet updates. 
  • Branding and Messaging: Ensure consistent branding, messaging, and quality across all external safety-related internal communications. This includes Saint-Gobain corporate brand and internal EHS branded programs and platforms, working in partnership with EHS colleagues.
  • Employee Engagement: Develop initiatives to promote and strengthen employee engagement in Saint-Gobain’s safety culture, including employee safety events, recognition programs, internal events, town halls, and other feedback mechanisms. 
  • Collaboration and Integration: Manages an internal advisory team of EHS, plant operations, HR, and Communications leaders to ensure alignment and integration of safety communication campaigns and priorities. Collaborates with global EHS and global Communication teams to identify opportunities to integrate global initiatives in North America region when relevant.
  • Planning and Project Management: Manages project plans and provides status reports to senior Communications and EHS leaders to advise and inform on progress for key projects and initiatives.
  • Measurement and Analysis: Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of communication strategies and initiatives, using metrics and feedback to continuously improve.
  • Project Budget Management: Ensure all safety communication activities are executed within the assigned budget.

IS THIS JOB FOR YOU?

  • Minimum of 5-7+ years of progressive experience managing internal communications campaigns, priorities and initiatives in large, high-matrix organization with a dispersed workforce, combined with a proven track record of developing and executing successful communication campaigns and employee engagement activities.

What’s the job?

This position is primarily responsible for managing the day to day operations and production of gypsum wallboard in accordance with the Buchanan plant’s policies and objectives. This position is also responsible for setting a high standard for safety, quality, housekeeping, productivity and performance for all plant associates. Also responsible for empowering associates to make sound and timely decisions and resolve problems during operation.

  • Responsible for department safety and environmental compliance.
  • Ensure all employees are actively participating in CertainTeed’s Safety Culture including the Buchanan Plant Everybody, Everyday program
  • Ensure all departmental employees are trained as outlined in the CertainTeed Safety and Health Policy.
  • Ensure that the plant produces the required quantity and type of products required by the customer, and at the highest level of quality.
  • Ensures accuracy and completeness of reports for all shift activities in daily logs including needed maintenance items and explanations on production failures resulting in lower than standard performance.
  • Effectively communicates objectives and priorities with Supervisors, and ensures development and coaching activities, and performance conversations are conducted in a manner that further enhances the skills and effectiveness of the supervisor team.
  • Advocates and implements the messages from management, as well as operating philosophies.
  • Support the Continuous Improvement efforts for the production line. Support Kaizen events and follow up with Corrective Actions.
  • Oversees training of hourly and salaried associates and makes recommendations to the Production Manager for future training needs.
  • Manages the plant’s daily production function.
  • Direct the effective and efficient use of plant production equipment and associates.
  • Identify and schedule of preventive maintenance by production personnel
  • Provides recommendations on how to streamline and improve the process and improve process capability.
  • Analyzes all procedures to identify and eliminate redundancies, as well as provide feedback for process improvements. Follows exact formulation and process procedures as defined.
  • Ensures consistent and fair application of plant policies, as defined by the collective bargaining agreement, throughout department.
  • Maintains high degree of housekeeping and holds Supervisors accountable for assigned clean-up areas.
  • Provides shift coverage during any absences of the supervisors (vacation, leave, etc.)

Pay Transparency

Certain states require pay information be provided in job postings. The national pay range for this position is $89,500 to $138,500 per year, however, the base pay offered may vary depending on geographic region, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.

In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual bonus. The targeted bonus amount is 12% of base salary based on company and individual performance measures. The total target cash range (base pay and annual bonus) for this position, is $100,200 to $155,100.
